Validating weirdness

helloEdgeware’s good friend and kindred spirit Ian Plowman is unsurprised that Edgies (people who have done an Edgeware course and are thus ‘inside the tent’) consistently feed back that, while they think the Edgeware offering is useful, the key thing for them about the experience is each other.

For Ian, this is about validating weirdness. The kind of person who grows up to become an entrepreneur (or artist, or experimental scientist) is weird in the eyes of the majority, and entrepreneurs will often report an early realisation of this, of feeling like a round peg in a square hole.

So when you get a bunch of weirdos together, they tend to recognise each other. Sometimes it’s like a fireworks display. Their weirdness is not only tolerated but celebrated. Their weirdness is validated.
