Let’s say I grab hold of something like a cricket ball, and hold on, very tight. Two things happen. In a while I get a cramp and I become frozen to it, and also, in a way, I become dependent on it. Second, while I’m doing this I can’t use my hand for anything else.
This wanting to grab, to grasp, to hold, to own something or someone is entirely natural. So is feeling stuck, frozen, dependent, preoccupied or distracted. It seems a reasonable alternative to work on holding things lightly - dealing with them without getting stuck to them.
